I simply have to give Kevin Y. and the folks at Autodesk a 'Thumbs up!' for speeding up my CDK Version 2 delivery. I now have it at home, and it is up and running. I am 100 percent Autodesk blood now 🙂 Currently saving up to buy 3D Studio Ver 4. On the other side… who out there can tell me the best video card and best vr gear available? (Or who has something I might be interested in) Very Interested Wade

Wade: I am a game developer and am interested in your feedback about CDK-2. If you like it, what are the best/worst things about it. How long did it take you to get it up to speed, and what kinds of things you;re using it for. PLease leave me e-mail here. I check it often. I am thinkning of buying the CDK very shortly and any input would help. I currently have AutoCAD 12 and 3D Studio 3. Thanks DJF

CDK Ver 2 is rather quick and easy to setup. *IF* you know C++ you are in business. The new version (2) comes with some programs in Windows (use NT if possible) that will let you instantly pull up the worlds/objects you have created with 3DS and Autocad. You can even use the animations that you create in 3DS (for example, if you have a animation of a globe spinning – you can put that in CDK and the globe will be spinning) So far it has been very easy for me to manipulate things. Perhaps in the future if you consider purchasing this program (which I highly recommend if you are serious about TRUE VR) we can work together on projects. If you (or anyone) have trouble reaching me here – then mail me at one of these addresses (in order of preference) thurmaw@phhrelo.mhs.compuserve.com wthurman@unicomp.net hmm maybe unicomp.com (sue me i have too many) Anyways… If I can be of any assistance drop me a line. << instantly pull up the worlds/objects you have created with 3DS and Autocad. You can even use the animations that you create in 3DS>> Sounds good. I know C++, but I wonder about the speed when the globe spinning in CDK2 in windows? Does the runtime run under window 3.1 32s? I wish to get an API manual for CDK2 for evaluation. Do Autodesk allow evaluation and 30 day return? Mei-Tien

I am not sure if they allow evaluation of such a product. As for the globe spinning… as with all things, this would depend on the power of your machine. Ram, Proc, Video Card/Engine? are crucial for real time. I am on a limited budget and thus have only 20 megs of ram and a small 32 bit video card, thus my frame rates are not near what I would like for them to be. (it is of course wise to keep the poly count down 🙂 ) Wade

Wade: Thank you for your response. It looks good. I will most likely be purchasing the entire development environment before the end of April. That includes upgrades for NT 3.5, Visual C++ 2.0 (32-bit edition), the various MFC libary bits, and a 1 gig IDE drive for the NT OS. Oh, and the CDK of course. I'll let you know how things go and YES, I would be interested in collaborating with you. In fact, we will be looking for a few good programmers to help us get some gaming projects to market. That could be a good opp for all. Thanks DJF

Ya welcome. Since you probably have a much higher budget than me you will probably run off and leave me *sniff* But such is life. Let me kno what happens 🙂 Wade

does someone know much money Autodesk charges for the CDK?

I *THINK* it was in the neighborhood of 1500 american dollars…. however I can not swear to that because I got it through the upgrade. – Wade
