My guess is that you do not have 6 Megs of 32 bit RAM. With one SIMM
installed on the board, that's impossible. You are much more likely to
have only 1 meg of 32 bit, 1 meg of chip and 4 megs of 16 bit fastram.
I can only wonder where the 4 megs of 16 bit mem is hiding. Did you
mention each and every board in the machine?
GVPCPUCTRL FASTROM is 1 command, not two like you decscribe it. The
program tries to remap the kick-ROM (512 Kb) into 32 bit RAM, but fails to
allocate a chunk of 512 Kb non-fragmented 32bit RAM. That's why you get
the error message. GVPCPUCTRL without any arguments should report the
current status the program is in, but this fails (I think) because of the
fact that nothing has been done by the program in the first place.
Can't the client use GVPCPUCTRL MoveSSP? This speeds up the system more
than the FASTROM option does (at least in my case).
Your slowing down problem is caused by the same thing: no available 32bit
RAM. But I'm beginning to wonder, if you didn't mention 4 megs of 16 bit
RAM somewhere else, maybe it's a 4 meg 32 bit SIMM that has managed to
loosen or blow up. Your problem is definitely the lack of 32bit RAM, but
if your system hasn't changed physically then I suspect one of the SIMMs
went "boom". 🙁

Fortunately, it's not my machine.
(I've grown to _loathe_ GVP products for the 2000.)
As far as I know, it only has the three boards listed (AD516, Toaster
2000, GVP 40MHz 030).
He is using GVPCPUCtrl correctly (ie: 'GVPCPUCtrl FASTROM' all on one
line).
I think the main problem may be that he doesn't have enough 32 bit wide
RAM. (Like I said in the first message, he gets an error stating:
"Insufficient 32 bit wide RAM to remap KickStart")
I was under the assumption that the single SIMM installed on the
accelerator is a 4MB SIMM, with 2MB on the accelerator board itself?
I was hoping that someone with a similar board would be able to tell me
what kind of SIMMs fit in there – and possibly what the error code means?

I don't know the cause of or solution for your (client's) problem, but here's
the info I have just in case it may trigger something.
My GVP 030/40MHz has 4M soldered onboard and 3 SIMM sockets for 4M SIMMs. It is
the only configuration mentioned in the manual for 030/40MHz. Mine is running
in an A2000, 4M 32-bit, 6M 16-bit RAM, 1M Chip RAM and I have GVPCpuCtrl
FASTROM >nil: in my Startup-Sequence after the $Ver and SetPatch statements.

I forgot to ask about what his memory configuration while looking at
Sysinfo, and since his WB was reporting ~=970K of CHIP, and 5.7MB of FAST,
I _assumed_ he had 2MB on the motherboard, and 4MB on a SIMM…….
I can only assume he has at least 8MB of RAM on his accelerator, which
means he should be able to remap his Kickstart?
One thing I notice is that you run SetPatch first?!? From what I've
surmised, his system only recently started giving him this error message,
and putting SetPatch first is something slightly beyond this guy.

When I installed the '030, I couldn't remember enough about SetPatch to know
whether to leave it in, take it out, put GVPCpuCtrl before it or after it. So,
I did the ole "wing it" and put GVPCpuCtrl right after SetPatch and restarted
the system. All seems to be working so I have not experimented. No, I still
don't remember diddly about SetPatch and haven't looked it up.

Thanks for the tips anyway! GVP has always been 'bad juju' as far as I'm
concerned. (Especially when it comes to their early A2000 products!) I've got a
fax into GVP – here's hoping they take the time to respond……still nothing
from this forum though. (no surprise.)
