#Chip upgrade
3 messages in this thread
I was wondering if i could upgrade my A500 with a new CPU like an 68030, or an
040? I have an Supra Turbo 28…Don't know if it will still work.
Do i need anything else in order to use such a chip or is it just plug and go?

Stephen,
yes, you can upgrade your A500 with a 68020, 68030, and even a 68040 CPU. Only
it's not just the CPU but a board that usually plugs into the socket of your
68000 CPU. Those boards usually take your old 68000 (for compatibility issues,
i.e. games), the new CPU, an (optional) FPU (except for 68040 which has one
built-in), and (hopefully) slots for 32bit RAM chips. Without 32bit RAM your
new CPU would be like a Porsche with the handbrakes on…

Christian,
Thanks for the reply.
Do you happen to know any prices and where in the U.S. to get an 68030 board?
And some 32bit ram chips?
I am assuming that a newer proccessor will speed things up a bit. But will i
still be able to use my Supra Turbo 28, and will it be even faster it i did?
