Stephen, yes, you can upgrade your A500 with a 68020, 68030, and even a 68040 CPU. Only it's not just the CPU but a board that usually plugs into the socket of your 68000 CPU. Those boards usually take your old 68000 (for compatibility issues, i.e. games), the new CPU, an (optional) FPU (except for 68040 which has one built-in), and (hopefully) slots for 32bit RAM chips.
