Thank's for the reply, but i'm not very literate when it comes to the terms
you used. <How do i terminate a drive, what is term power>?

Stephen,
Devices at either end of a SCSI bus need terminator resistors to
electrically 'balance' the SCSI bus. Devices in the middle…don't need them.
For the resistor network to work (the termination), there needs to be a
single 5v supply that one of the devices on the bus must supply,
otherwise…the bus will "mis-behave"
Check your drive literature (if you have any) it should explain it all
to you.

I bought an internal drive brand new and it did not include ANY docs. So i
guess i'll call Maxtor on monday to see if they have any they can send me.
After 5 years with the Amiga, you'd think that i would have learn'd this stuff
some where along the line.;^)
Now i am assuming you mean to solder a resister to the first and last device
some where along the +5v wire in the ribbon cable???
And please excuse my ignorance.

Maxtor has an excellent vioce mail system. Just work you way through the menus
till you get to you drive (or family of drives) Their phone number is

Hopefully you won't have to solder anything. Chances are your terminators are
on the drive already (most times they are sold with the drive). If not Maxtor
will be able to get you some.

Thank's for the info. I foung an 800 number for Maxtor, it's 800-262-9867. It
has 24 hour support thru the menu system you told me about.

NO…do NOT solder anything to the SCSI bus. The drive comes with
terminator packs installed. Depending on where the drive is, you either leave
them in place…or removed them (they are socketed).
Same thing with term power…usually there's a jumper on the drive that
supplies or doesn't supply the term power line on the SCSI bus.
Yes…get the inforamtion from Maxtor…and get the information on your
other drive also.

Ok, got the number for Maxtor, it's 800-262-9867. I called and got the info
needed on the Maxtor drive. Mow i have to get the number for Miniscribe. You
happen to know where their out of? Thank's for all the help…:^)

Miniscribe when out of business years ago…but you're in luck, they
were bought out by Maxtor…so call the same number.
