I still not comfortable with the events that formed fold mountains.
Looking at the current condition of the continental crust we find that almost
all coasts have nearly vertical margins. They are vertical for thousands of
meters to the basin and I would assume that they continue to have vertical
margins for miles below the new ocean basins.
If the fold mountains were created from ocean basin pushing on the sedimentary
crust as Howard explained traditional geology states then there must have been
conditions different than we have today. How could the basin reach up to push
on the sedimentary crust..transmit the force through hundreds of miles of the
crust at the coast leaving it relatively unfolded to fold mountains hundreds of
miles behind the coast?
