I have been reviewing messages on CompuServe and thought you may be able to
help me.
My son, Christopher, is completing his senior paper in Geography and wants to
study Antarctica. He would like to correspond with scientists thru email as a
part of his study.
First, does anyone know anyone who would be interested? If so,how can he
contact them.
Second, what suggestions would you have regarding this effort?

Always great to see another Geographer! Best of luck to him. If he hasn't
checked the MAPFORUM, there's always some interesting cartographic chat over
there. Most Physical Geography postings are in the various sections here; the
best Environmental and Human Geography discussions are over in EARTH. The
thread subjects often belie their content … but if your son's a good
geographer, he'll realize that Geography is a regional, spatial window through
which to view a thousand topics.

Ed's suggestions for searching other forums sounds good to me. I'm afraid I
don't personally know much about Antarctica, or know anyone who studies it.
Keep looking for responses in this forum, as I've found there are lots of good
responses to my questions, but they may take a few days to turn up.

PMJI, I flew helicopters with the U.S. Antarctic Research Program for
three years. Although I'm not a research scientist (my B.S. is Aero
Eng.), I did pick up a bit from the investigators on the ice.
Also, if you can specify a field, I might be able to put you in touch with
some of the scientists. Biology, Geology, etc. The science season is
pretty much over on the ice, so everybody's back in the states, and can
probably be reached through university computers.
