#DTS 4.1b won't load!
8 messages in this thread
Help!
Just recently D/L the new upgrade 4.1b. The only problem is that it won't load
after it's installed.
I constantly get the message; Insufficient memory to run this application. Quit
one or more applications & then try again.
I've communicated my problem to Martine, but since it's something which appears
to be totally unexpected, she wasn't able to offer much help at this time other
than report it to the programmers. Sure is frustrating to say the least.
Also get several other messages after trying to load DTS and attempting to get
into other apps, ie:, Compuserve, WordPerfect etc.
I have one of the most stable machines around, which by the way runs 4.1a
without a hitch.
I'm running a 486 Dx with 8 meg/mem…540 meg HD…No memory managers other
than memmaker to optimize conventional memory which is 627,000 K.
I would appreciate any help, comments or expertise in this area if possible. I
would also be willing to make a call to anyone if possible for further
discussion, just leave me a number on Compuserve. At least this way you won't
incur additional phone charges and i'll be able to detail the problem a bit
more expounding somewhat on measures i've already taken trying to overcome the
dilemma.
Thanks in advance………….Bud Parsons
Bud,
If noone else has any other suggesions, there are 2 other things that you may
try.
-Re-download just the *.exe files (not *.txt) and re install the update
or
-Re-install 4.1a until the patch is available.

Hi Dean…
Thanks for getting back to me in a hurry. I've already tried the options you
mentioned, D/L the exe files again but to no avail. Also reinstalled 4.1a
three times, then the upgrade, but that doesn't seem to cut the mustard either.
Funny thing about my being out of memory, there is nothing else running when
trying to go into 4.1b, plenty of resources and memory available, so much in
fact I can load Lotus, WordPerfect, Serif Page Plus, Win-Fax 4.0 and others and
multitask through them all without a hitch!
What is the process for a patch? I mean how does it work and when might I
expect some results? Do the programmers just do it when they are up to it, is
there a waiting line as such? As I am apparently the only one who suffers from
this malady, i'm afraid it might be a very lengthy wait until my problem gets
on the agenda.
Anyway, thanks again and if there is something you or others might come up
with, please inform me, i'll try anything at this point.
DTS has been a great PIM and i'm willing to float along for a while, but even
good things which go bad or don't work isn't worth the aggravation, heartbreak
and mental anguish!!!
Thanks again………………..Bud Parsons
Bud,
We've run out of suggestions. You may want to run 4.1a without 4.1b until we
can iron things out.
Keep your downloaded files, the patches will be downloaded on top of them.
Development is working exclusively on fixing all problems in 4.1b immediately.
The first set of general patches will be available in the next week or two.
Thanks for the patience.

Good Morning Dean,
Last week I spoke to you in reference to me not being able to open the new
upgrade 4.1b after installing. Refreshing your memory a bit, it goes like this;
First of all running 4.1a doesn't seem to be any problem as such, but on the
other hand after I install the upgrade i'm getting the message,…"Insufficient
memory to run this application. Quit one or more Windows applications and then
try again". The problem with this is that I don't have any other apps running
when trying to access DTS!
Secondly, after suffering from this letdown, attempting to access Compuserve
for one, I get an error message,…"Btrieve initialization failed", followed
by…..
Btrieve Error – code = 1002
Location; [dbtree.cpp,149]
————————————–
This comes up three more times with the last number being, 154, 237 and 314.
When completed, it does let me go in and do my thing.
Then we have WP 6.0 to contend with as follows;
Cannot – initialize – The most probable reason is insufficient memory. So far
this appears to be the extent of my error messages, but as we both know this
can change in a heartbeat.
After receiving your reply to my first note, you suggested I reinstall 4.1a
until the patch was ready then all should be up and running like wildfire. Well
it didn't work and quite simply i'm a bit disappointed and letdown that Okna
developement didn't even address my problem or anything close to it in the so
called list of bug fixes. Maybe this is my fault for not putting it down on
paper in the beginning but at that time I mentioned that I couldn't even access
WinCim or Compuserve.
To top it off there appears to be quite a few bugs in the bug fixes or at least
this is what i'm reading in the forum.
Dean i;'m not here to make your life of that of Okna's miserable, but I do
think after paying my money like numerous others, I ought to be able to at the
very least get into the program and explore it for what it's worth.
Bottom line: Who do I talk to, write to, fax or Fed-X my plight to in order to
address this problem. I spoke to the fact that I was afraid of being left out
in the cold concerning this and apparently it's come to past.
Summing up:
I have plently of memory. DTS 4.1a does appear to run good. I do not have
problems with my setup in Windows except when I install 4.1b and try to run it.
The patch is a waste of time and effort for me at this point, it does or solves
nothing!
You have my address. I'm available by voice at (305) 989-6114 or Fax (305)
989-1480 just about 24 hours a day, if I miss you call leave number and i'll
return. So, if you or any other person at Okna can come up with some solutions
or suggestions, i'm all ears…….
I Remain Sincerly,

Mr. Parsons,
I am forwarding your message in its entirety to Konstantin. One of us will
reply as soon as we have some suggestions.
So you are aware, the patch is now available on Compuserve if you wanted to try
it.
It seems to have solved many similar problems that others are having.

Good Morning Dean,
Dean, thanks for your time and effort in trying to get me up and running. As I
mentioned in my last message, i've already tried using the patch but as things
usually go in life, it didn't work.
Yesterday I happend to sign on and noticed there are new upgrade files which I
gather replace those which needed the patch to bring it up to par. Is there any
benefit D/L'ing these newer files then upgrading, will I gain anything in the
process? I notice the statement in the descriptions that there is no need for
the patch when using the newer files for upgrading.
Thanks again…………..Bud Parsons
Bud,
There is no benefit do doing what you suggested. The new update is simply the
old o e combined with the patch.
