I have been a loyal user and outspoken fan of DTS for which a while — and I
congratulate everyone on the 4.1 upgrade. But I have a small problem. I had
hoped with this upgrade we could schedule calendar events beyond December 31,
1997. I work with trade shows which occur annually or sometimes even every
second or third year. The dates and places of shows I would like to track are
often scheduled 7-10 years in advance and I sure would like to use my DTS
calendar to keep track of them.
We know from 4.1 (and from everything that comes out of Bill Gates' operation)
that software usually takes longer to develop than is estimated. Therefore I am
concerned about waiting until DTS 5.0 comes out to be able to to schedule
events a little farther into the future.
I wonder if a patch might be practical to give us the rest of the century to
work with now?

Herb,
The Calendar is designed with a five-year date range to keep recurring events
from going wild and taking up your entire hard drive. What you can do is
create a new calendar file, which will have a range of 1995-1999. That should
take you to the end of the century.

I created a new calendar and it is valid from 1/1/95 through the end of 99 as
you said it would be. But I can't seem to transfer data from my old calendar
via the transfer command.
The command offers 1/1/95 – 12/31/97 as the date range (which makes sense) but
after I get the warning that it will overwrite data in my new calendar (which
is fine because there is none), it complains that the data range is wrong. What
am I doing wrong?

That worked. I was able to transfer 1995 in one command, then the same with
1996, but 1997 would only work one month at a time.
But there seems to be no way to transfer my setup parameters — like my Desktop
Calendar. That's a bit of a pain.
And how do I get my annual recurring events which I transferred from the
calendar that stopped with 97 to show up in 1998 and beyond? The recurring
message box reads "To: Infinity" but they still stop at Dec. 31 97.

You will need to reset the recurring events after 1997.

How do I "reset" them? Do I have to manually paste a copy of each recurring
event in the first appropriate occurrence in 1998. I'd prefer to keep the
entire recurring event continuous, so if I should have to cancel or change it,
I can do so once.

Try highlighting an event and going to edit/recurring and change the range to
infinity, and then click ok. It should extend the events duration.

Nope. Of course the range already said infinity. I took it out and put it back
in but it doesn't change anything. Please let me know if you have any other
ideas.

No luck. When I change it to 12/31/99 the calendar won't accept it at all. If I
change it to 12/30/99 then it accepts it and immediately calculates the correct
number of instances that should appear — but the new ones do not show up in
the calendar.
In my example it is an annual event starting in 1984. When I enter 12/30/99 it
say 6 instances, but those past 1997 do not appear. Help!

I don' t think that there will be any interim patches available to fix this
particular problem.
There is a somewhat complicated, and inconvenient work-around that involves
manipulating your system date. If you would like more information, let me
know.

Do you mean that it is not possible to transfer data from one calendar to
another? Since ma very full calendar stops at Dec 31, 1997 that means I have no
way under version 4 to handle events beyond that date. Ouch!
