Imagine 128 Video Card
9 messages in this thread
I was considering purchasing the Imagine 128 video card. Now that the new
Vibrant drivers are out that support it, I was wonder if anyone could tell me
how this card performs in 3D Studio? Thanks in advance.

Alex, I noticed a couple of folks who had Imagine 128s – I hope they don't
mind me posting their IDs (if so – sorry).

Hey Nik! What's the verdict on this one?

"Hey Nik! What's the verdict on this one?"
Hi Scott – the only problem is – since the new drivers have been released, I've
heard nothing. Is this equivalent to "No news is good news"?

Never in this business! <g>
Have you had a chance to mess with your Impression + much? Does either board
support NT?
Are there any special considerations in buying a video board to support
Animator Studio & 3DS?
Also, do you know of anyone using a Triton/Pentium w/ 3DS? -Thanks!

Scott, I don't think I have an answer to *any* of your questions!
"Have you had a chance to mess with your Impression + much?" Nope.
"Does either board support NT?" I don't have NT, and I don't know the answer
to this one either.
"Are there any special considerations in buying a video board to support
Animator Studio & 3DS?" The primary concern is whether or not it is supported
by 3D Studio. Performance issues seem to be secondary, since people have their
own favourite boards. Some people say "ATI Mach 64, YES!" or "NO!" Can't
tell. There isn't any special technology being taken advantage of by 3DS or
AAStudio. I'd try to keep an eye out for high performing cards by looking at
PC Mag reviews, etc. PCI bus and 2Megs or more seem to be de rigeur.
"do you know of anyone using a Triton/Pentium w/ 3DS?" Sorry, no.
You're welcome!
Thanks for the info. Guess I gotta once again bite the bullet!

Scott,
I'm getting the Impression+ 220 tomorrow. It does have NT drivers, and OpenGL
drivers are in the works. (obviously not as good as a Glint based card, but it
should speed up some functions) There is also support for running TWO
Impression+ cards in NT3.5 and doing the multiple monitor/Mac like thing.
(both need to be in the same rez though, and must be the same PCI card- no
mixing of the cards) I don't guarantee accuracy of all this, this is just what
I am pretty sure of. I'd ask in the Matrox forum to get Matrox's official
answer.
I don't have NT yet, but that should be sometime soon.

I'd be curious to hear your critique after you've had a chance to work with it.
I got burned by my last video card <g> and I don't want to make that mistake
again!

btw, where are you getting it from?
