Let me know where to send the sample. You might consider writing about your
experiences with the infrared controller. If you access Internet (and just
email is fine), you might check out the ami-sci mailing list. Many people on
the list are instrumentation-oriented. Let me know if you need a pointer on
how to get signed up. I agree with your opinion about the `crazy hacker
hobbyists' that energized the Amiga and could be given credit for creating it
and keeping it alive. The interesting magazines aren't dead yet, try to get
some Amiga Report electronic mags from Aminet, or Jason's new magazine effort.
It will also be interesting to see where AC will go now.

BTW, seems to me a science-oriented zine like yours might be capable of
existing quite well as an E-zine, distributed via the 'net.

I take it you edit Scientific Amigan. I would also be interested in
reading it if you can Cmail me details. Now that the Amiga is well and
truely toast (humor intended) I feel suddenly like writing programs for
it, go figure. That is the way it is with a real crazy hacker hobbiest.

Thanks for your interest in Scientific Amigan, especially the willingness to
write programs (hopefully with associated articles)! I think Scientific
Amigan's focus will always be on technical application, with Computer Science
topics as close to programming as it will get. However, I am entertaining the
idea of publishing a programming and general Amiga usage newsletter if it looks
like at least 500 people would be interested, with a much higher potential The
reason for this spec on subscriptions is, basically, I can't afford to pay for
writers on speculation for a second newsletter (so there has to be a minimum
level of interest for a certain volume of writing), my contribution would be in
layout, distribution, advertising, editing, accounting, general management, and
the occasional article (kindof sums up my work on SA, only I write quite a bit
for that :-).
Please send me private mail with your postal address for a sample issue of
Scientific Amigan. If any eavesdroppers out there are interested in the Amiga
technical newsletter (system-oriented), please let me know. The only thing
holding this up is participation. Writers and columnists are welcome!

Depending on what you mean by general Amiga usage, I'd be very interested in
such a newsletter, given the outstanding quality of Scientific Amigan. I have
a hard time imagining that you couldn't find 500 people for a relatively
mainstream Amiga newsletter, as long as enough people found out about it.

Thanks for the compliment! Now that the tax forms are almost done, I can get
another issue together and add to the collection. I would also find it
difficult to believe that there are only 500 Amigans interested in a `bare
metal and programming' type of Amiga newsletter. That figure really came from
the minimum practical audience for any newsletter operation. In comparison, I
understand that Amiga Tech had about 7000 subscribers at best. That is the
minimum level for a regular magazine format (or so I am told).
I am not sure about the traffic here, but 4 people have indicated interest so
far. I will post a few other places and see what happens. I will definitely
post here if the project is launched, and a decision will be made in the next
two months.

I think the name threw me off. I took it to be the Amiga versionb of
Scientific American (where I would find articles on using Amigas for hemorroid
research and such 🙂 If you mean technical as in Amiga internals and such,
then add my name to the list. I subscribed to AC's tech journal but let it
lapse.
