Could someone give me the current status of the Bahamian Blunders? I heard some
talk about Escom and some guys in Wahington, and how it's a done deal and now I
hear nothing. What's the (latest) deal?

The German arm of Commodore apparently sold the Commodore trademarks to
Escom for 1.6 million. This caused a flurry of activity…mainly legal to stop
the sale. The apparent resolution is that there is now a (nother) bid period
that has opened and that Escom has stated that they'd be willing to give up the
trademarks based on the outcome of the bidding.

I see. So, any guess on how long this next bidding process will take? Like
maybe…two weeks? 🙂 This whole deal is so incredibly stupid. Of course, they
will have to wrap this thing up pretty soon because if the value of the Amiga
technology drops any lower, people who have more sense than dollars could start
bidding, and the world could not handle an Amiga producer than had brains!

We've heard the usual, 'a few weeks' but at this stage…I'll believe
it when I see it.

Righto, DON! – A bit of realism is finally starting to creep into these
discussions. The only thing Commodore could do worse than marketing the Amiga
is killing the Amiga – and they are proving how much they can screw things up
in this process of mangling whatever future the system might have had. RIP and
I hope someone someday brings it back into production but I'm not holding my
breath, either.
Don't remember who but one of the guys on BIX summed it up well with something
like:
With the experience that we have had from C=, what makes you think that
management could even go bankrupt competently?

I thought, fine, so someone else will Amigas… no one could do a worse job
marketing them than Commodore so things were even looking up. Now I agree –
the only worse thing Commodore could do than market Amigas was to NOT market
Amigas . What a mess!
It's funny somehow that a company like Commodore with a coupla million debts
takes about a year (or more? we'll see) to get a buyer while a certain bank
with about a billion is sold in about a WEEK…

Could you inform a lost soul in this world of "amigas" the rumoured reasons why
the Amiga Tech. died? This news was a shock to me. I've only owned an Amiga
for a year or so, and piled tons of cash into it just to make it decent. Now
with all this mess…well, you can guess how disenchanted I am.
What is the story? Is it truly possible for a computer platform to totally die
(on thinks of the TRS-80.

Well, Jim, I think you must've confused me with someone else. I have no clue
what you're talking about. Sorry about that. As far as a computer platform
completely dying off, well, I think we may be watching one do that right now,
unfortunately. I'm keeping my A3000 'til the wheels fall off though…and then
I'll find more wheels for it!

I presume you mean 'Amiga Technology' when you say 'Amiga Tech' and
yes…the parent company Commodore did declare bankruptcy about a year ago and
as of this point…the technology has not been sold to anyone so the technology
is becoming less and less valuable.
As long a *your* computer works for you…there is no reason to change
it for something else. As soon as it can no longer do things you wish it to do
(or can't get the software to do what you want)…you're left with very few
options other than to buy a computer that does (or has the software) what you
wish done. That doesn't mean your current computer is no good…it just means
you'll need something different (perhaps in addition to what you already
have…depends on your budget and how much room you have for computers in your
home).
