I'm a little confused about something you said. I thought that the non-mpc sony (535 or 7205) was actually newer than the 541. Also, since it's hard to tell by the specs, is the 541 really MPC, and how do we know (does it have an MPC logo?). Since I'll probably do 99 percent text searches, and 1 percent MM (if at all), I'm more interested in access time, where the non-mpc sony does better. What a spot. How's the Toshiba 3301? That seems good (in specs anyway). -Dan

Yes, the 541 is definitely MPC. That is the drive that is included in Media Vision's MPC Multimedia system. I could be mistaken but my understanding is that the 541 is a later drive than the 7205.

I suspect you are right Nelson. If Sony has followed a logical numerical progression in their drive evolution, then the 541 comes after the 535 (7205 external), which came after the 531 (6201 external). Keith.
