Which music files are you referring to?

Files probably isn't the right word. It's the little music icons (horns of some sort) that illustrate melody, counterpoint, etc. Clicking on them gets me the hourglass but nothing resembling music. Not exactly a disaster, but it bugs me that I can't figure out which driver is out of place somewhere.

Sorry to be dense, but I'm still not with you. Where are you seeing these icons/horns?

In the Encyclopedia of the Microsoft MPC Bookshelf, if you look up musical terms, or go to the Contents under "Music Examples", you get screens with little speaker icons. Presumably when you click them they are supposed to play either using digital playback or synthesis of notes in your soundcard. e.g. look up "melody" or "counterpoint", click on the yellow "audio" icon, etc. In my case, I get the hourglass for a couple seconds, and then the cursor, with no intervening music. Like I said, not a biggie, but if it means that the sound synthesis isn't working right under MPC Windows, it'd make me sleep better:-) to get it sorted out.

I just tried it, and the music comes through loud and clear. Assuming that you have the Synth turned up in the Mixer (which I believe you confirmed before), you should be getting the music. Have you tried calling M.V.?

Part of my problem may be that I still haven't gotten the MM/Extensions from MV. I've left BBS mail and two phonemail messages with them so far. I installed using the version that comes with an SB Pro, but then downloaded all the MV specific drivers from their BBS and installed them over top. I suspect something didn't work quite right, but there doesn't seem to be sufficient documentation about what any of the drivers really do or what all the settings are to fix the problem. Unless somebody can nail it right off, I'll just resume waiting for the MV version before hassling with it anymore, I think.

Regarding getting Win/MME from M.V.: I talked to M.V. about this the other day and was told that it takes 3-4 weeks to get it out. I got the impression that just don't consider it a real high priority item. (Obviously! They should be able to get it out in one day!) I told them that they should understand that customers don't want to wait a month after buying something to use it, and she said she would pass that info along. You might try calling David Cooper, the product manager, at 800-348-7116 or 800-845-5870 or at 510-770-8600. You should be able to get through on ONE of those numbers.

Thx. I left a message for the MV person who has showed up in MULTIVEN. The 3-4 weeks is one thing, but a) they told me 1 week when I called on December 19th, and b) they blamed my sending in my paperwork on 12/19 and being registered on 1/2/92 "on the mail" (well maybe, but it's only 40 miles, and I sent a disk controller round trip in the same time to someone down the road from them). They were all incredibly polite, by the way–just unwilling to go out of there way to send one out specially or think of the situation as a problem. Thx. again for your continuing help! I'll stick with MPC anyway, but many other folks won't if the vendors don't get a little more organized.
