I may have been the originator of this thread late last year. I came across
an ad in Byte (Sept. 1991, p.272) which offered this deal. There is nothing
in the ad which indicates that the offer is for dealers only. Indeed, there
are TWO numbers shown for the Inquiry Card, ONE of which is specifically
for Resellers.
The outfit which placed the ad is Peter J Phethean, Ltd. of La Habra, CA
Their 'phone was given as (213) 691-8248. Order Desk was (800) 362-3766 and
FAX was (213) 694-2112. The "Secial Grab TEN Pack" offered Ten CD-ROM disks
including CIA World Factbook, CD-Guide, Sherlock Holmes, CD-Sampler,
Shareware……+ More. Hope this helps. Peter.
how much is this cd pack?
I was told that the price to dealers is $129 and that they would sell to an
end-user who cannot find a dealer for $199. At the originally quoted price
of $99 is fair if you are interested in the CIA World Fact Book CD, the
Sherlock Holmes CD, and the Shakespeare CD.
The rest of the CD's are of dubious value, IMO — things like pictures of
landscapes, Batik Design(?), cloth patterns(??), pictures of the history of
the Santa Fe Territories(???)…
At even the "dealer price" of $129, it's less of a "deal". As a dealer, I
would not want to pay that for it in hopes of selling it at a higher price
to a customer.
At $199, you can do a lot better elsewhere, IMO.
