palettes in Ani Studio?

Will Animator Studio contain palette features similar to Animator Pro? In particular, I need the ability to create a "super palette" for a number of images, and I also need the ability to "squeeze" the number of colors in a palette. Will these features be included? Thanks, Jerry

Animator Studio has different palette abilities from AAPro. Although I am not that familiar with AAStudio yet (and the different builds have different things!) it appears that you can save to a master palette, that you can confine your palette to a specific range of indices. So, if I want my palette to match UNIONSTA.FLC, I can do so, including the ability to say that I want only to use colors 40 through 256. The area that I believe we do not have in AAStudio is AAPro's ability to look at the palette and move colors around, ramp, etc. Please remember my remarks are on a product that has not been released, and it is a product that I am not very familiar with. 🙂 Thanks.

<You're asking about future features of a product, Jerry. It's hard to know will get added or pulled from AStudio's development till it releases. -dave> Since the product was officially "launched" last September, I think it only reasonable that people begin to ask about the features this "product" contains. I think that if it contains anything less than the features described in the launch press release, there should be some questions raised. It is a well known tactic to pre-announce a product as a pre-emptive measure at keeping customers from migrating to a competitors product. I wouldn't like to think that this is the case with Animator Studio, but the complete and total absence of any form of product 7 months after it was "launched" kind of makes a person wonder.

Joe Autodesk clearly states that software like AStudio and 3DS are pre-release versions when they show them at various trade shows and that nothing is cast in stone. Why not just accept that and wait for the final version or buy the software that does what you want today? The alternative, as I see it, is that there will be no pre-release info and we will have to wait in the dark<G>. Have fun. TedB !^NavFont01F0007MGHHH47DD77

I don't go to very many trade shows, (since they are always out of town, during working hours) so I only read what Autodesk sends in the way of press releases and such. There isn't any thing in the launch release that says, "by the way this is all wishful thinking". Also, I don't really buy this pre-release stuff. If you have a product, then sell it. 7 -8 months is too long in advance to pre-release something. By the time it is finally released it will be ready for an upgrade. I suspect the reality is that we won't see Animator Studio till we see Windows 95.

Joe I think I liked it better when software companies announced on the date of shipment, but they don't anymore and that's the way it is. I find it helpful to know ahead of time what "might" be in an upcoming release so I can make tentative plans on hardware, etc. My point is, try not to get too excited about things you can't change, Joe. Give us some tips on how to use the software we have in our hands today. Thanks, Joe TedB !^NavFont01F0007MGHHH5BC074

Hi Ted/Joe, I think it's only fair to get some info about a new product, after all isn't here a heap of beta test sites around or are they bound by their non-discloseure clause? Back to the orignal question: I fine it amusing that we are looking to a product which has a fundamental fault when it comes to palettes (running under Windows with it's reserved palette) to do palette adjustments…. maybe A'desk will do a good job on it and we can save in full 256 for the 8 bit app's Anyway food for thought CU GH in OZ

Jeremy, Do you know of any procedures, tools, utilities, etc. which will allow me to reconcile a FLC file palette with an 8-bit VB application palette. Every time I run my animation I get a VERY rude palette shift. My process for creating the animation was: 1. Produce the sequential bitmaps in a 24-bit paint program and then dither individually using Image Alchemy to my application palette. 2. Use Animator to produce a FLC from the sequential frames 3. Play the animation in my VB app using VBPLAY.VBX. My suspicion is the Animator is rearranging my palette and confusing Windows. Am I correct? What can be done about it? Many thanks!!!

Stephen, What it sounds like to me is that Windows is changing your pallete. Windows reserves about 20 colors for its own pallete. If your pallete differers from the Windows pallete, guess what? You get wonderful pallete shifts. My suspicion would be to squeeze down the pallete from 256 colors to about 236 in Animator Pro. See what that does. More than likely, your pallete shifts will disappear. Windows just needs its space. Hopefully this will solve your problem. Otherwise, I'm kinda at a loss. Maybe someone else in this forum has had the same problem? Hopefully they might be able to provide some input. Jh

Is Animator Studio available for upgrade? I'm ready if it is. Randale Sechrest

Jeremy, Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I squeezed the palette and still got a palette shift. FYI: I'm not sure I mentioned it but I had been using a freeware FLC player and am starting to suspect it as the culprit. I have ordered the FLC player DLL kit from Autodesk and hopefully that will put this headache to bed. Thanks again for your help. Regards, Steve

Garry Haven't seen you around here for a while!? I'm pretty sure Adesk's non-disclosure is very strict and clear. Other paint programs seem to save to individual 8-bits images fine. Maybe we'll find out about AAS soon! TedB !^NavFont01F0007MGHHGBB7D8B

Garry I'm also waiting to see what the authoring package will be about, nothing being said about it on this side of the planet either. Lock up the kids and dogs, I understand Michele Bousquet is loose Down Under (geez, sounds like a food poisoning problem)<BG> TedB !^NavFont01F0007MGHHGDCC70C
