Hello, I have thought about Aztec but the docs I have said it uses register
A5 as the frame pointer instead of A6 like lattice and most other 68000
compilers I have used. Icon's assembler portions presume that A6 is being
used because Icon uses A3-A5 for its own frame pointer and psuedo pc and
such, and I really don't want to unwind and rewrite all that. Other than
that, aztec looked good and I was disappointed at the little problem.
Incidentally, Bob Alexander and I have finally gotten in touch, he sent me
email during my absence from CIS, but I finally responded the other day, only
about 2 weeks late.
Yup…you are right. Aztec does use A5 as a frame pointer. Too bad…I'm
sure it would have made things much smaller! As a matter of fact, Bob just
left here about 10 minutes ago! He did mention finally getting in touch with
you and that he'd had a nice letter from you. I guess he mentioned that he's
moving along real well with his Snobol (actually Spitbol) port to the Mac.
He figures that with a little luck he'll actually have it running and
complete this weekend. In the meantime, he's gotten the complete Icon
package ported to both our Convergent Mightyframe (68020) and the MicroVax
and has been doing some really interesting simulations with it. I envy
him…I've been working on a whole mess of Operating systems trying to decide
which one to buy for our new product. Real can of worms! On the Amiga…I'm
still busilly porting Unix tools to it and dinking with my editor. Good to
see you back, Gary. I'll stay in touch!
