#Chaos under DESQview

I just got CHAOS: the Software, and would like to run it under DESQview 2.41. I have DESQview set to expect Chaos to write graphics information directly to screen, and to virtualize the video. The Chaos batch file starts, Metashell is loaded, and the Autodesk logo appears, with the message "Please wait while program loads." The logo changes from blue to yellow. But nothing further happens. If I press Esc at this point, I exit from the Chaos batch file. The program runs fine (if somewhat slowly at some points) on my system, a 25 Mhz 386 (no coprocessor) with VGA and a multiscan monitor. Thanks for any advice you can give. I submitted this question a couple of weeks ago, and was advised to resubmit it when everyone was back from the holidays.

David, Hope you've gotten an answer by now. I posed the EXACT same question to their on-line phone tech support and was asked to "wait" a couple of days until they checked it out. It's only been two days so in fairness I can't YET complain. FWIW, I found that the VGA graphics driver from MetaGraphics Software that they (AutoDesk) uses is "probably" the problem. I think it is writing to the video inside a hardware interrupt….. This is a real "push" as I'm trying to back into what's going on via debug. So, I too am waiting. Please post here if you get an answer/solution; I'll do likewisw.

Joseph and David – We have one fellow in Product Support who uses DESQview; I will ask him to test the question. Sorry about keeping you waiting. My immediate guess is to try running the modules individually, rather than using the metashell.
