Claude,
it would make no sense to allow all users to access the same drawing in
order to modify it. At least not the way AutoCAD's database is
constructed. The only way to do this is on a read-only basis. IOW, a
number of users can use the file as an Xref and look at it as well as draw
over it, without modifying it.
If you tell us more about your application, I'm sure the experts will jump
in and give you more specific advice than this!

Anil – NOBODY WILL MODIFY ANY DRAWING IN THIS DIRECTORY. It's a consulting
directory. I beleive I won't have complete and easy access to the Xrefed
drawing database. And these users are not CAD operators. They're all
conducted thru a restricted menu.
