#PRINT AS/KX P1091i

Don,
When I execute PRINT AS choosing either "draft" or "graphic" from the submenu
nothing happens. When I execute PRINT, the drive runs a moment then the
printer prints with the selected font and size but the printout looks rougher
than the screen. Looking closer, maybe the screen just smooths it out but
PRINT AS should work. If PRINT is already giving me a pixel-by-pixel image,
PRINT AS would be redundant.
Ross
Ross,
The main problem is that PRINT does not necessarily give you a pixel by
pixel image. The printer driver will scale the output to fit the size you
have set in Preferences if the program is sending a graphic dump, and of
course will use the printer's builin fonts for text prints.
The printer drivers in 1.3 will have a lot better alorithms, and choices of
algorithms.

Ross,
Ah…now I see what you problem is. The PRINT AS item tells notepad
how to print the document WHEN you select PRINT from the menu. PRINT AS only
sets the computer up to do a graphic dump, or a text dump…but does not
actualy start the printing.
The graphic dump option does just that…a graphic dump so you get
the text as it appears on the screen (or close to it)…the draft option gets
you text as just plain old text and is about 100 times faster than a graphic
dump…that's why it's used for 'draft'.
Do this, pop up NotePad and type in a few lines. Now go to the menu
and select PRINT AS DRAFT and then PRINT. When that's done, go back to the
menu and select PRINT AS GRAPHIC and then PRINT. You'll see what I mean.
Don
Don,
That was it exactly. Thanks very much!! Seems like PRINT AS should have
been a submenu to PRINT rather than a seperate item under "project."
I'm a rookie at forums too. Should I delete all messages now or does the
SYSOP normally do that?
Thanks again, Ross
Ross,
We usually leave messages posted so that others who may have similar
problems can benefit. We have a limit here in the Forum of about a week's
worth of messages…so they go away after about a week in any case.
Glad you've got the problem worked out now. I agree, the type of
printing should be a sub-item of the print item.
Don:
A week! Have things slowed down enough so that a message can actually
sit around here for a whole week! I seem to remember that I usually missed
some if I waited longer than 3 days to sign on (for whatever reason).<grin>

Bill,
We have more room in the message base now than we did then….but I
logged on tonight and got 217 new messages between 2:00am last night and
then…about 20 hours.
Don
Subtract about 50, tho, caused by a runaway automated term program.
Steve,
Yea…I noticed that later as I was reading the messages.
