We have some AutoCad 2.52 drawing files that have apparently gone bad for
some reason. When we try to load then into AutoCad 9, we get a 5 EREAD 25
error message, followed by a hexadecimal dump of some sort. Is there any way
to recover these drawings? What causes this error? Any help would be
appreciated.

Mike, a method for recovering damaged or corrupted files is described in
Appendix F (F.5) of the AutoCAD Reference Manual. If this doesn't work, you
might want to try one of the programs such as D2D from Great Softwestern
(advertised in CADENCE or CADalyst) which claims to recover such files. It is
hard to say exactly what caused the problem, it could be several things: a
disk error while writing to the drawing file, a power surge, bad media,
memory errors, etc. =SM=
