Hello, gentlebeings, Thanks to you all. Why? 'Cause I KNOW you will be able and willing to help me help a friend. A friend of mine, Greg, is a [commercial artist / graphic artist / designer / ?] in his spare time. He is interested in establishing his own business, or rather upgrading it, by acquiring a computer/CAD system. He is perusing all the ads & literature he can find relative to this aim, but we all know how slow and sometimes misleading that process can be. Since I am partially responsible for increasing his interest in "automating" his 'one true love' I volunteered to get as much info as I could from the CIS membership. What Greg needs is recommendations/reviews from people with "handson" experience with various CAD's and computer systems. He likes my computer (Tandy 1000 TX) but not the monitor. He is interested in an AMDEK monitor (1832 ??), but doesn't know if it will work with the T1K. And he has no concrete idea as to which CAD software application(s) would be most suitable to his purposes. It is difficult for me to say exactly what he will be doing, what his range is, but I do know that at least one building here in Dallas has upon it a "logo" which he was commissioned to design. He has evinced interest in "desktop publishing", but again I am hard put to say just exactly what he would like to do with such software as we have discussed this in only the most general terms, since I am "graphics illiterate". Any suggestions, general or specific, would be appreciated, as they will help shorten the time and broaden the base of his deliberations.

Barney Suggest you get a copy of an artical called "Going Cad" in the Vol V, Issue 5, of The Computer Buyer,s Guide and Hanbook 1977. (ISSN 0738-9213) from Computer information Publishing,NY (212) 807-8220. . It has very good information on how to pick the right cad system for you. Also reviews on various hardware/monitor configurations. If you cant find the artical feel free to give me a call (213)820-4004. . Trevor Computer Support Associates

Trevor, Our thanks for a most timely response. I'll print your missive and convey it to Greg so that he can check it out. Or I may check it out myself, as reading some of the msg's here has created a bug-bite that I might not $urvive! More I see on CADD, more I want (although just for my own usages…schematics, furniture prints, etc. …). I feel certain that Greg will appreciate the information and will investigate it thouroughly. Thank you, sir, and Be well…barn
