Is it possible to modify an existing tablet menu item? e.g. add a "window" to
the "copy" command on the standard AutoCAD tab menu. Or perhaps add a "move
window" command to the first tab menu area, which is now blank?

Sure, see appendix B section B.2 page 346 [Customizing AutoCAD]. It outlines
the modification of the tablet menu.
All you need to do is edit the file ACAD.MNU.

Yes, you can modify tablet items. If you have room, you may want to put a
customized version of an existing tablet item in the top menu area (#1) and
leave the original one unmodified in case you need it that way too. =SM=
