Since your output is not affected by the dpi of your scanned image, we advise
that you scan full page images in at 75 dpi (25% of 300). If you do have an
image that is made up of small detailed figures, you can scan the images in
separately at a higher dpi in an area of about 2 inches by 3 inches. Save
them in MacPaint or PICT format, outline them with Adobe Illustrator and then
merge your final Adobe Illustrator files into one.
You could check further with Abaton/Microtek and ask if they have updated
their software for the particular scanner that you have.
The new Adobe Illustrator will handle scanned images in the same way that the
current version does. The difference will be in a utility that allows you to
auto trace over an object from a scanned image.
