AUTODESK FORMS AUTOSKETCH #1 TEAM
SAUSALITO, California, April 21, 1988 — Autodesk announced today the
formation of the AutoSketch #1 Team, a marketing and sales group that will
explore new opportunities to sell, distribute, and promote AutoSketch, the
company's entry-level computer-aided design (CAD) program. The #1 Team's
charter is to make AutoSketch the world's largest-selling CAD product. It is
actively pursuing opportunities with other software companies, computer
vendors, peripheral manufacturers, and retail outlets.
The Team recently negotiated a bundling contract with MSC Technologies, Inc.,
manufacturer of the PC Mouse, an optical pointing device for the IBM PC/XT/AT
and 100% compatible systems.
"AutoCAD became the world's most widely used CAD program by offering many of
the features of mainframe CAD–at a fraction of the cost–on desktop
computers and workstations," said Dr. Malcolm Davies, vice president of
marketing and sales at Autodesk. "Now, AutoSketch carries on that company
tradition by offering many of AutoCAD's two-dimensional capabilities for less
than $100. It brings the productive power of computer-aided design to
thousands of people who may have shied away from CAD because they thought
such technology, even in the form of AutoCAD, was too complicated and
prohibitively expensive. Before we released AutoCAD with the Advanced User
Interface featuring pull-down menus, icon menus, and dialogue boxes, we
released AutoSketch with this easy-to use, point-and-pick method of selecting
commands and setting operating parameters. AutoSketch is the perfect
introduction to the Autodesk family of integrated CAD products."
