Jon, I too dislike having to put a disk in a drive to make it shutup,
but there is a bug in trackdisk.device that might in some cases cause
problems (a rare 'unexplainable' guru?) when a drive is left empty. This
bug will be fixed in 1.4, or so says Commodore. Thus, it's best to always
keep a disk in a drive that otherwise would be left to click click click.
(Sorry, I can't remember where I read this. I'm not imagining it though;
it was definitely in one of the many Amiga magazines within the past two
months.) If the disk icon taking up space on your Workbench screen bothers
you, you can keep a blank formatted disk just for this purpose. Give it a
one-pixel color 0 icon, save the icon in Backfill mode, then relabel the
disk " " (one space). Presto, invisible icon! -Joel
