I "translated" his problem to CLI-ese. Try the following on a junk disk:
cd df1:
makedir junk
cd junk
makedir junk1
cd junk1
rename :junk junk2
cd
That last cd dies with a Software Error (haven't checked the disk yet; I assume
it's probably not 100% well any more).
Further on that little stunt of mine in the last message…
With that disk, disksalvage 1.2 crashed all the way back to kickstart once
(with Whap! running at the time), and guru'ed another time (without Whap!).
Disksalvage 1.4 ran fine on it. Clearly, that's a strong recommendation for
keeping up-to-date with that utility! The result was a couple of messages
referring to a directory loop, and nothing was left of the "junk"
directories (presumably because I didn't have anything other than the loop
in those directories).
Hmm… Maybe I'll try that stunt at work tomorrow on a Unix system and see
what happens (so, I've got a warped idea of "fun").
