Gary. Perhaps I've missed this somewhere or my DiaQuest drivers are not up to date. Is there a way of setting the unthread time for the VTR thru 3DS.SET? I currently set my preroll times (at least 3-5 secs) from DOS and that works very smoothly after setting the inpoint from the VTR control popup. What I'm missing is a way to unthread the machine for long (very long renders). I seem to remember reading something about this in a prior thread here however, I can't find the text in last night's capture file. Do I set the thread time from DOS or internally (or have I missed another command somewhere?) As usual, thanx – Greg BTW: The VTR I'm on at the moment (here at the house) is a Sony VO-5850. I'll be using a BVU-800 on the weekend… Hope I have better luck with that unit. (I don't remember the VO-5850 being this tempermental before, then again this one is fairly beat…) I know it's in the manual somewhere (the Diaquest manual) but I can't seem to find a reference to park points/unthread other than the standbyoff setting… (Oh yes, it's a DQ-50P controller). – gl

Diaquest recommends setting the unthread time from either the front-panel of your VTR or via their copycom utility. Please contact them for specific information about your particular VTR. – G

Gary… I spoke with Diaquest a little earlier. Yes, you can use the copycom utility from DOS (or any other parameters set in DOS will be `passed-through' to 3DS's VTR control (like the pre-roll functions I mentioned in the earlier post). Most VTRs have a `slack-tension' timeout built into them (usually after 3 minutes or so). Diaquest confirmed that it is better to just have any deck in the slack-tension mode (even for long frame renders) than to unthread/rethread per each frame (less wear on the transport mechanism, as I'd suspected). As I mentioned, I'll be testing 3DSr2 with a serial RS-422 deck (vs the Sony VO-5850 deck, which is a parallel unit), using the SoftVTR program and a BVU-800. Will let you know how this fares also. Thanx for the feedback. – Greg
