Languages CD-ROM

When I purchased my Sony CD-ROM setup, I also got the bundled Sony CD-ROM
library. One of the disks was "Languages of the World". Has anyone who also
has this library/disk managed to get it to work? The symptoms of the
problem I encounter is that it appears to install … and then goes
bye-bye. ie … back to the dos command line. the documentation does not
suggest anything unusual … and I encounter the same problem with both the
Sony and Matsushita drives. any clues?? thanks

I'm running Languages just fine NOW…I originally had the same symptoms
you report. By poking around a little in their programs, I discovered that
it checked for a 80×87 coprocessor. My CMOS was signallying a coprocessor
that I don't have and causing everything to lock up. There is a SET command
(sorry, I've lost the info) that tells DOS that no coprocessor is installed
(maybe SET=NO87). Finally, I discovered that the reason my CMOS was wrong
was a low battery. Replaced that and the problem went away (thus I don't
have the SET info anymore since I don't need it). After those frustrating
days, my LOTW works just fine – enjoyable!
