Help on IBM Hard Drive

I am looking at purchasing an HD for my Amiga 2000 A2286 Bridgeboard on the
IBM side. And could use all the helpful information I can receive.

I opted for a hardcard for my Bridgeboard. First, I had a very inexpensive
one, and when it failed for the second time, I bought a PlusCard50. It's a
great drive, 9 ms access time – but I cannot find a way to make it boot the
BB. Have to keep a floppy boot disk in the BB drive. I think there is a
way to make it work, but I've not had time to track it down, and their
technical support person said it would not boot any Commodore MS-DOS
product!

Thanks for your info. The PlusCard50 is that for the AT or Xt slots?

It requires an AT slot, and it is so slim that it does not overhang another
slot, either.

My Plus40 hardcard boots my BB.
The air pump in the back of our Silhouette came in handy when my wife
had a flat tire in the Corolla.

Did you do anything special to make the Plus40 boot the BB? Are you sure
you don't have an XL hardcard?

It is essentially an XT type card. There is no documentation because
the previous owner took it in trade with some other stuff. Since it was
already configured with MSDOS 5.0 for the previous owner's AT BB, it booted
right up. I just installed DRDOS 6.0 over it since I don't have a copy of
MSDOS 5.0.
As you may recall from the A2286/A2088 Bridgeboard User's Guide Section
5.9 on page 87, the fake C drive is disabled when there is a real
controller and harddrive installed.
Your assumption about it's being an XT type controller has to be
correct; otherwise, it wouldn't run!

That's XL, not XT. The Plus XL is the more recent type of Hardcard, and it
can be configured for different machines.

How did you do it – the Plus40? Or maybe it is just the difference
between the Plus40 and the Plus50?? I talked with their technical support
several times, and they assured me that it would NOT autoboot the BB. If
there is a way to make it work, I'd like VERY much to know what to do.
I've never had occasion to use the air pump yet, but who knows? Nice to
know it is there, anyway.

As I told Marion, it is an XT type controller. It is called a Plus40
hardcard. It only had to be dropped in one of my XT slots to supersede the
fake C file.
The previous owner had used it with his AT BB. Consequently, it didn't
need formatting or prepping. I just installed DRDOS 6.0 over MSDOS 5.0
since I don't otherwise have or own a copy of MSDOS 5.0.
The hardcard itself acts like two 20 Meg harddrives.

The Plus40 hardcard (two 20 Meg drives) was working on the A2286
Bridgeboard of the guy from whom I bought it. Now I have it on the A2088
hardcard.
