I seem to be having a prob with my 3000. Sometimes I go to click on my
partition icons and nothing happens! No matter how many times I click I
just can't get the machine to do anything. How ever when I reboot, the
problem is fixed. Also only happens when I leave my computer alone for a
while (I never shut off the machine), such as when I come home from work or
just wake up. Any ideas…

Does this happen only when you click on an icon that would normally ask for
disk access (ie, can you open the RAM disk)?…
If so, it sounds like a 'stiction' problem, where the hard drive 'sticks'
when left idle in a warm environment for a period of time. CBM should
replace the drive for.

Stiction only occurs when the drive is OFF. Randy stated he leaves
his machine ON all the time.
Stiction occurs when a HD drive stops, and parks the heads in an
area of the disk not normally used (which is what most drives do now a
days). The heads then "sink" into excess lubrication that has been
"pushed" off the areas normally used for data storage. As the drive cools
down, the lubrication becomes move viscous and prevents the drive motor
from spinning the platter back up when power is reapplied [due to the drag
caused by the heads "sunk" in the lubrication].
I'm not sure what Randy's problem is, but it's not stiction.

You're right Don… I forgot that the drive is up & spinning all the time
when the system was on. Oh well… I thought I had a quick answer.

Whoops! Just read your answer. So It looks like I may be screwed. Guess
I'll just have to bring the machine in anyways and have the tech guys have
a look at it. Thanks for the help. That goes to Michael as well.

Sounds like that might be the problem. Is there anything that I can do
about it here? Like maybe sticking a fan close to the computer. I really
dread sending my computer away for a while. I'll suffer from computer
withdrawal!!!

As you saw from Don's response, it's probably not a 'stiction' problem, but
if you can narrow it down to the hrd drive, you should get it replaced
soon, before the problem gets worse and you lose access to your data.
