I am having trouble digitizing color images. I am attempting to use a
combination of digital/watercolor/pastel images. i.e. I find and
image/photo that fits my need, and digitize it. After manipulating it in
PixMate (or right in DigiView) to "bleach" it, I'll import it into
Professional Draw and "trace" a line/grayscale drawing. This I out put to
a DeskJet and then color it by watercolor or pastels or pencils. This image
I want to re-digitize and import to Professional Page for page comp. I
can't get the colors right! they are muddy or totally wrong!
I am using 4.0, with a new piece of hardware you folks provided. (The
Digiview port). Do you have any suggestions as to the RGB filter? or
lighting? These seem to be the only short comings I can think of. I use
the standard Panasonic BW camera you get for DigiView, and the filter you
provide.
This is very frustrating. I hope to output an EPS file to color postscript
at a service bureau. (This is a childrens book comp.) I need godd
practical sugesstions that are "affordable".

Kirk, You didn't mention what your light source is. It must be
flourescent and not incandescent. The RGB filters are balanced for
flourescent light. I've always gotten excellent color reproduction with
Digiview using round flourescent lights that screw into normal light
sockets. Hope this helps. BP

? I have just gotten DigiView Gold (MediaStation) and have the following
setup:
A500 AdRam 540 w/3.5 Meg Panasonic WV 1410 Copy Stand Cool White Cool White
Flourescent Rings Lights Digi-Droid
And I am having the following two probems: 1) Am unable to get acceptable
results with other than Slow Scan (color camera)
setting. This makes Hi-Res unuseable. What I am experiencing is
'jaggies'
across a majority of the image. (And _yes_ my camera is set for INT
sync)
2) The manual says to use the clear or the blue setting of the filter for
B&W
digitizing, but the software commands the red filter into position.
Which
is correct?
Any hints/solutions to these problems would be appreciated. I hope NewTek
still has a warm place in their heart for DigiView…what with all the
excitement over the Toaster…. Paul
Paul, I also have Digidroid. I assumed that Digidroid was used to
automate the RGB digitizing, since no filters are used in B/W. I always
loosen the screw and rotate the filter out of the way of the camera when I
digitize in B/W.
I usually digitize in Digiview's Ham+ mode in normal scan mode. If you
want to compare images, let me know and I'll upload one. By the way, if the
jaggies are in vertical stripes, you need to adjust the tracking setting in
the camers menu, although you've probably already tried that. BP

Yes I have tried the tracking control. 'Normal' scan mode is completely
unuseable for me. As far as the 'Droid….it purposely selects the red
filter…while the manual says use green….hmm.

Another thought on the jaggies:
It may be that your 1410 camera is not producing good interlaced sync,
even though it is set for that. Do you know anyone else around you that has
a Digiview setup that you can swap parts with?

Paul,
Regarding your DigiView jaggies, I've had trouble with that when my
video cables were strung too close to monitors, though it may have been
that the cable itself was too susceptible to radiated noise in the first
place. Check for solid connections and cable routing.
