#New CD-ROM drive?

David, Do you have the NEC CD drive connected through an NEC/bundled scsi host adapter, or via some other scsi host such as an Adaptec? I'm indecisive as to whether to take the easy route of getting an SB Multimedia package, or obtaining the bits separately. I feel a general-purpose scsi CD might be more useful should I go PC-based UNIX. Gary

I am using the NEC 73m with the bumdled NEC SCSI adapter. I thought about getting the CorelSCSI, and probably will, but this one is working very well. Setting this drive up was very easy. I didn't have to do anything. Plus, I haven't had any problems, lockups, etc, since installing it! David

I bought it from a local dealer here in Atlanta, GA. I believe their name is Business Computer Systems. I think that's right. This is the first time I've bought anything from this particular company. David

Thanks for the tip, Dave. It's coming down to the wire now — I hope to make the purchase within the month. But now that CL is beginning to push the Video Blaster I'm starting to think that I might want to stick with their suite of products. Compounding the frustration is the "certainty" I feel that if I would just wait yet another year I could find three times the capability for about half the cost. — HLF

It's a very nice card but there are a number of limitations with it, such as the sound quality when used with a CD-ROM and sampling sound from the disk. IT leaves a little to be desired. Plus it's a noisey card. I'm getting ready to start work on sereral (sorry, that should be several) multimedia training packets that include recorded sound from CD-ROM and from Laser Disk. I've tried it with the SB Pro and it isn't what I need or want. It's great for games! But isn't what I need for sampling sounds. David
