Soundblaster CDROM drive

Because I had given 2nd hand information to you, I decided to do a sanity
check. I called creative labs and was told that the interface for their
CDROM is not even SCSI, but rather it is an IDE interface (not compatible
with standard IDE disks). DO NOT buy their drive for use on a SCSI adapter
because it has no chance of working.

Thanks for the info. It's fascinating, because a friend of mine says he
has a SoundBlaster board and that the port is labelled 'SCSI'.

Is this a SoundBlaster Pro … like from Creative Labs? Since I don't ever
put the lid on my machine (can't find the screws anyway :)), I took a look
at mine. The board definitely has a 40 pin "IDE like" connector and I can
only find numbers 1-2, 39-40, and a label J2 near the connector. I would
surmise that he examined the connector, assumed SCSI, and now remembers it
that way.
Not entirely sure if he is mis-remembering, or if he is sure. I think I'll
pass on trying it though. I used to enjoy hacking around at that level, but
just don't have the time these days.
