#Screen Flicker

I've just taken delivery of a second 1960 monitor (the first was DOA) and in laced modes I'm still getting screen flicker. I'm running a 1200 in super hi res laced mode and thought that this flash new screen wasn't supposed to do a good imitation of my old 1084. Can anyone help me. Am I wrong or what? Thanks Matt in NZ

I have a new A1200 w/1960 monitor as well, and have been using the "dblNTSC high res no flicker" monitor driver to run a high res screen without the flicker. I have tried the "lace" modes and they all produce flicker, but not being up on this tech stuff, I have no idea why that is so. =Rick=

I think the problem is that the 1960 is not a tru multisync. It syncs at just 3 separate frequencies. It can't "slide" to any frequency it encounters. I'm using a NEC 3D with super 72 laced, and there's absolutely no frequency. Sorry. I was about to make the same mistake until a very helpful salesman at Safe Harbor set me straigt on the 1960. Gary, Does the NEC 3D work with the "standard" Amiga modes, that is, does it support a horizontal sync rate of ~15kHz? Darron

Darron – Yes, it does…15.5 to 38 Khz. If interested, the one place I know of that seems to have a source for new (and occasionally factory refurbs) is US Flex…you'll always find their ads in the last 5 pages of Computer Shopper. Hope that helps. Gary

Super Hires Laced is an interlaced 15.75 mode, so it'll definitely still flicker… AGA doesn't deinterlace this mode (not enough bandwidthavailable.) Bob Comer — Cruising the nets on AutoPilot

Thanks for the reply – Secondary question is would I get rid of this flicker with a monitor like the NEC 3D in super hi res or can I get anything that will do the job on this 1960? Thanks Matt from Auckland NZ

Unfortunately, there isn't any monitor, or flicker fixer type device, (yet, only rumors) to get superhires deinterlaced… Loks like your only choice is superhires interlaced, or use one of the lower res's like DblPAL, or DblNTSC. Bob, Thanks for the update. I'm using DblPAL and yes it's not bad I'm just disappointed. I'd always thought that a multisync would give me flicker free – Oh well I'll just have to satisfied with what I have I guess! Or should I try to swap this 1960 back for a NEC 3D (or 3FG – I think the 3D's not availible over here any more) Matt

The 1960 is a good monitor (that is if you have one that works 🙂 I don't think I'd swap for a Nec 3D, their pretty much the same. Some poeple have had better luck on reliability with the 3D though. I wouldn't trade for the NEC 3FG, that would be cutting out all the 15.75 modes (including SuperHires, the 3FG can't sync to that at all) Bob Comer — Cruising the nets on AutoPilot
