#PC Spits at AMIGA
12 messages in this thread
I am trying to connect my PC to My 2000. I have modem cable running from the PC
COM1 to the 2000 Serial port. I have Telix and the only I thing I could find
for the Amiga was JR-COMM. What do I do now or do I have to start over? I want
to transfer Image files from the PC to the Amiga's ADPro. I have been doing it
with CrossDos…but will now begin to conserve time. Thanks.
You must have a null modem adaptor connected to your modem cable.

You have to use a null-modem adaptor when you connect two PCs directly via
their serial ports.

Kip,
Been a while since I've connected two bare computers with no modem in
between, but as I recall, you'll need a NULL modem cable first off. I
think what that does is "twist" a couple of lines for handhsaking purposes
– so the out on onw is sure to go to the in on the other – clear as mud, I
know! :^}
Then the software on both ends will have to be capable of direct
connection/null modem operation/software handshaking. I believe the
terminal products from MSS on the Amiga handle that kind of operation, but
I'm not sure about JR-Comm as I've not used it expcetp to try it out a few
years ago. On the PC, we used to do it with smartterm 240 and procomm.

That's right! I remember about the Null-modem cable now…okay I'll do that
Then I guess it's software finagling time. Thanks
Hi Kip: If you want to make your own Null-modem cable try one of these…
Pin 1..Ground…………….to pin 1 Ground (optional) pin
2..TD…………………..3 RD pin 3..RD…………………..2 TD pin
6..DSR………………….20 DTR pin 7..signal ground…………7 signal
ground pin 20 DTR………………….6 DSR Jumper pins 5,6,8 together at both
connectors. Use 25 pin EIA connectors male or female depending on you computer.
****The above cable uses hardware handshake*****
For no hardware handshake leave out the 6 to 20 and 20 to 6 pin
connections and jumper pins 5,6,8,20 at both connectors. This info is
from a serial cable guide for PCs. You should check your
documentation to insure the above terms (TD,RD,DSR,DTR,Gnd,and signal
Gnd) match the pins numbers……………Wes

Kip,
I have the same that I do with my DX2 and my Amiga 500. Sounds like your
problem is that you need to get a NULL Modem Adapter (FROM RAdION SHACK or
wherever) Connect the NULL modem adapter to one end (ends don't matter)
That will get you going hardware wise. Software wise, set up telix for
whatever com port your serial cable to the amiga is on. ( I don't know if
telix has a DIRECT CONNECT entry if so just ensure it is set for the com
port going to AMIGA) . Set baud rate to 19.2K LOCKED on both the IBM and
AMIGA (with JR Comm use the right mouse button drag down the top window
bar and click on serial) And you should be good to go. I STRONGLY
Recommend that you use ZMODEM transfers since there is no error correcting
hardware involved (ie V32bis, V42bis modems) and that should get you good
to go. If you want to try to get even more speed between transfers then
lock the ports to 38.4 altho I have experienced some lock ups on the Amiga
side when I did. Hope that helps

Thanks Jody. I ended up getting ATALK III and I can boogie at 57,600 with
Telix. Thanks for the response.

Try Twin Express, an Amiga<->MS-DOS or Amiga<->Amiga null-modem transfer
system. AmigaUser library 5.
TNXA11.LZH/Bin Bytes: 57446
Title : Twin Express 1.1a Serial File Transfer Program
Keywords: FILE TRANSFER SERIAL REMOTE BACKUP IBM
Twin Express 1.1a (Amiga) is a serial file transfer program.
Features transfer speed of about 22,000 bytes/second, compatibility
between Amiga and IBM version (with translation of text files),
DOS-like commands, support for wildcards & subdirectories, on-line
help, error detection & correction, etc. Corrects a bug in version 1.1.
Shareware from Omnicode.
You _will_ need a null modem and cable, but the cable only costs about $9
and the null modem not much more.

Thanks for the response. I will try Twin Express, although I just bought ATALK
III and I can jam at 57,600 with Telix on the PC. Thanks again.
Kip,
You need a null-modem cable or adapter box. You can pick one up at Radio
Shack.
After you get this, you can use your terminal program to transfer files,
but I'd suggest searching the Amiga Forums for a program called Twin
Express. It's a LapLink-like file transfer program that's great for tying
together Amigas and PCs.
