Drive work all right on my WYSE 286. The only deference between two machines is version of DOS 3.3 vs. 5.0. Any ideas what could be wrong ? Andrew…

The NEC BBS is (503)635-6328. Aside from SETVER to help MSCDEX to run, I don't have any specific ideas about why DOS 5 should be different.

Make sure you are running DOS 5.0 's SETVER in your config.sys so MSCDEX is fooled into thinking that you are runing DOS 4.01.

I had the same problem of the drive not being ready under Windows 3.0 running under DOS 5. I have a CDR 36 and and a T128 interface card. The NEC technical help line 1-800-366-3632 took the info and said that there was a ROM upgrade for the T128 and that they would send it to me asap. Give them a try they were really helpful.
