#Street Atlas CAN print!
7 messages in this thread
I met a guy who says that Street Atlas USA actually CAN print directly,
along with a whole ton of other things. He said that if you change the hex
byte at location 1,097 in version.dll from C0 (hex) to DB (hex), that
Street Atlas turns into "Xmap 1.33" with the ability to print, open
multiple maps, annotate maps, save and restore etc.

Thanks David…but just how does one change the hex byte??

If you have Norton Utilities, use Norton Editor on the file and type in the
new value, then save. Remember to always back-up your pre-change version.
Robert,
To make the change to version.dll, cd to the directory where street atlas
is located and type:
debug vesion.dll
e 549
db
w
q
This should make the change. If anything goes wrong, you can restore the
old version by copying it from \atlas\version.dll on the cdrom.

I can confirm that what "the guy you met" told you is true up to a point.
I had about five minutes before running off to work so I edited
version.dll. It's a completely different interface. Pretty interesting.
In the two seconds I had to play with it, it was also pretty confusing.
Thanks for the lead, will be fun to experiment.

"sure does". You can export, print, and scribble on the maps. However,
Here are the glitches I've found:
1) No documentation for the new interface (surprise:-)
2) Crashes, haven't pinned down which parts are most susceptible.
3) Major!: I can't get it to display streets in mag > 13. It shows
blank.
David,
You can display text at level 13 by going into the Display menu, selecting,
Preferences, and clicking on the "text" button.
I've also found that the system keeps saying it has no data at
magnifications 2,4,6,8,10, etc. You cn fix this by clicking on the "Auto"
button in the "Mag" box. Then just click the magnification that you want
to use. Here are some other goodies:
When printing maps at mag 13, I get HUGE text for the street names.
Hopefully there is a way to get around.
You can add just about anything to a map. Click on the jagged line in the
Toolbox. Then draw a line with it. Now click on the arrow in the tool box
and click on the line. This selects the line. Now go into the Edit menu
and click "Show feature codes". If you now scroll through the list of
feature codes and click on one of them, the line turns into the style of
the feature. For Features that aren't lines (like lakes). Use the polygon
tool from the toolbox.
