#PageStream Update
12 messages in this thread
I'm using version 2.2HL of PageStream and would like to upgrade to version
2.22. I noticed to files in the DL, one to go from 2.2HL to 2.21, and one to go
from 2.21 to 2.22. Do I need both these files, or can I just use the latest
update?
I'm having roblems importing text spreadsheets into Pagestream. I have no
problem getting the text into PageStream, it's just that the coulmns (in the
text file, not Pagestream "coulmns") don't line up becuase the fonts have
different sized spaces, numbers and letters. Is there any trick to making
something like this work?

Barry,
What you've run into is one of the fun (?) things about proportional
fonts. You can solve it by either setting up decimal tabs for each column
of numbers, or by choosing to use a monospace font (such as Courier) for
the table. I prefer the latter, as I find it much easier, but, depending
on the size of the sheet you might prefer the decimal tabs.
Thanks, Pat. I'll have to try a non-proportional font.
Pat,
how do you set up decimal tabs in PageStream ? The manual does not mention
it and is recommending monospaced fonts.

Jorgen,
Ooops! Chalk that up to my faulty memory. I forgot that PageStream
didn't support decimal tabs (yet? I wonder if they are in 3.0?).
In that case, monospaced fonts are the only solution. Sorry for the
misinformation.
Yes, decimal tabs and monospaced tracking are in 3.0.

Michael,
Will PS 3.0 let me do this?
Create article on page 2. At the end of the article put a "Continued on
page xx" notation (hopefully something I could just pull up as some kind
of glossary entry), then place the continuation on page 10, starting with
a "continued from page 2" message.
THEN, I move the first part to page 1, resize the box so it's a little
smaller, and eventually move the continuation to page 11.
Any chance 3.0 will have some kind of variable system where the "continued
on/from" things could be updated automatically?
Also, it would be nice, for book-length publishing, to be able to, say,
set the first 12 pages to be I through XII, and then start with page 13 as
page 1. Currently it appears you can't change from roman to arabic
numerals.
I was amazed at what I saw in NY. It looks like it's going to be REALLY
good. But gosh, how are we going do live without Neochrome import? (grin)
Denny:
Continued From/On: it's in the interface already. It may or may not make the
cut. (I'm pushing for this feature because I really need it and consider it
important.)
Page Numbering: all you do is start a document. Put your 12 pages in it (set
page numbering to roman numerals). Then create a section. Make it's page
numbering whatever you like. This setup is made specifically for doing things
like prefaces, intro's and so on. Page numbering is switchable at the document,
section or chapter level.

Sounds cool on the numbering, and the inclusion of document/
chapter/section specific settings!
Tell Deron I think the "Continued From/On" thing is important too. 🙂
Anyone doing a decent-sized newsletter will find that feature incredibly
handy.

A swide swipe from a reader….. a pox on "..continued on page 117" 🙂

Barry,
Use a non-proportional font, like COURIER.
Thanks, Michael. I'll give it a try.
