#Quarterback Tools Deluxe
15 messages in this thread
Central Coast Software is pleased to announce our new Quarterback Tools Deluxe
package, and we would like to extend an upgrade offer to all registered
Quarterback Tools users.
The all new Quarterback Tools Deluxe package includes Quarterback Tools version
2.0. This is not just a cosmetic upgrade to Quarterback Tools, but a totally
revised and and rewritten program. We've completely rewritten Quarterback Tools
from the ground up, and added many new features:
* Support for file and directory links on AmigaDOS 2.0 volumes.
* Support for new AmigaDOS 3.0 file systems, including the directory cache
file system.
* Much faster scanning when repairing disks, recovering deleted files, and
optimizing disks.
* Optimize disks even when they have bad blocks.
* An all new advanced disk sector editor.
* A new "3-D" user interface.
* Much easier to use than before!
But there's more! In addition to the Quarterback Tools 2.0 program, Quarterback
Tools Deluxe includes several new programs–programs that make managing files
and disks easier than ever before:
* Replicator: A miniature disk duplication system. You can make multiple
copies of a source disk, using up to four floppy drives simultaneously. You can
even save an entire disk image as a file, and load it for later duplication.
* Locator: A fast and flexible file finder. With Locator, you can scan
individual drawers or entire disks for files that match a name or pattern you
specify. For each file found, you can see the file's location, creation date,
size, comments, and contents, so you can quickly determine if it is the file
you are looking for.
* Encryptor: A program that can protect your files from prying eyes. With
Encryptor, you can encrypt and decrypt your files using a password that only
you know. People who don't have a file's password will not be able to read the
file's contents.
* Disk Eraser: A program that can completely erase either the unused portion
of your disks, or the entire disk's contents. When a disk is erased with Disk
Eraser, not even Quarterback Tools can recover the contents of the disk. There
is no better way to make sure no one will be able to access your deleted files.
There is even an option for using Department of Defense specifications when
erasing!
* File Eraser: A program to completely eliminate files from your disks. When
you erase a file with File Eraser, not even a program like Quarterback Tools
can recover the file's contents. And like Disk Eraser, File Eraser includes an
option for using Department of Defense specifications when erasing.
[continued in the reply]
[continued]
* Keystroke Finder: A utility that shows you what keystroke sequence you need
to press to type any character. An indispensable tool if you ever use special
characters such as copyright symbols or accented characters.
* System Mover: A tool that helps you quickly and easily install or move
system files–such as fonts, printer drivers, system libraries, and CLI
commands–from one disk to another. System Mover shows you version information
of the files you are moving, so you can make sure you are using the latest
versions of your system software.
* Brain Cloud: An amazing utility that temporarily (and reversibly) renders a
floppy disk inaccessible from AmigaDOS–without affecting the contents of the
disk! When a disk has a "Brain Cloud", not even the Amiga's "Format" command
can affect the disk! Perfect for protecting your disks from inadvertant use by
others.
With all these new features, Quarterback Tools Deluxe has a new suggested
retail price of $125.00. However, as a registered Quarterback Tools owner, you
can get the complete Quarterback Tools Deluxe package for only $40 plus
shipping–a savings of $85 over the retail price.
Registered owners of Quarterback Tools will shortly be receiving an upgrade
notice in the mail. However, if you prefer, you can order your upgrade now for
faster response. Call us for details or to place an order (if you order the
upgrade over the phone using your VISA or MasterCard, you will need to have
your current Quarterback Tools disk handy, since we will need the registration
number from the back of the disk).
Quarterback Tools Deluxe will be shipping in late April/early May, and as
always upgrades are processed in the order they are received. We are sure you
will be as excited about this new package as we are!

P.S. If you are a registered owner of Quarterback, our best-selling backup
program for the Amiga, you can purchase a copy of Quarterback Tools Deluxe
direct from Central Coast Software for $75.00. Call us for more details.
James,
UNBELIEVABLE! So Quarterback Tools Deluxe is finally available. I have
been waiting for the upgrade for a long time. Normally I would be very
happy with your announcement, and the upgrade price seems reasonable. The
problem is that just last week right before I attended the WOCA Show in
NY, I specifically asked Randy when the QBTools upgrade would be ready. He
did NOT indicate at all that it would be released within the week. I asked
before the show, because the vendors have very good prices at the show.
So, since it seemed that the QBTools upgrade was taking forever to come
out, and according to Randy its release didn't seem imminent, I just
purchased Ami-Back Tools. Now a few days after I purchase it, you announce
your upgrade. If Randy had at least indicated last week, that the program
was due for release shortly, I would not have purchased Ami-Back Tools,
but I would have waited for your upgrade.
I have always been a loyal CCS customer, owning both QB and QBTools.
But you should understand my frustration. I could have bought Ami-Back
Tools a long time ago, but I didn't because I was waiting for your
upgrade. Then after a very long wait and still no upgrade and no news as
to when it will be released, I finally buy your competitor's product, and
a few days later you announce the upgrade.
I'm not trying to be rude, but I just wish Randy would have told me
QBTools Deluxe was about to be released, when I asked him less than a week
ago. I would have waited the extra week for your product. I really wanted
your product, but how can I justify buying it right after I just bought
Ami-Back Tools?
Thanks for listening.

What does Ami-Back Tools have that QBTools doesn't?
I have not even looked at Ami-Back since I have been happy with QB, but I
do simpathize with you.

Tony,
>What does Ami-Back Tools have that QBTools doesn't?<
Ami-Back Tools existed while QBTools hadn't been upgraded in over 1-1/2
years with no release date in sight. 😎

Dominick,
I'm sorry you are so unhappy that we are finally releasing Quarterback Tools
Deluxe. I can understand your frustration–we wanted to get the product out
earlier ourselves, but we also want it to be _right_.
If you read the notice I posted, you'll see that Quarterback Tools Deluxe is
not shipping now, but will be in about three weeks. We usually don't announce
these things until about two weeks from release, but because of all the
interest we've received on CompuServe, we decided to announce it here a little
earlier than usual (the upgrade mailings have just now gone out, and will
arrive in about a week, which is our normal schedule). So when you spoke to
Randy before the World of Amiga show, we were still over a month from release.
We just didn't feel we could announce it that early.
Again, I'm sorry to hear you are disappointed with our release announcement.
But it is a great product (if I do say so myself), and we are all really
excited about it.

James,
Thanks for the reply. I'm not unhappy or disappointed with the release
of QBTools Deluxe. I had been waiting for it for over 1-1/2 years. If you
announced it 5 days earlier, I would have been ecstatic. It just seemed
uncanny that last week there was no release date in sight, so not wanting
to wait any longer I bought Ami-Back Tools. Then, 5 days later you finally
announce your product which I was waiting for, for a long time.
I am a registered owner of the original QBTools. I can't justify owning
both programs (Ami-Back Tools and QBTools Deluxe), unless you want to give
me a further discount off QBTools Deluxe, if I fax you proof that I just
bought Ami-Back Tools. 😎
Thanks.

Dom –
Don't feel _too_ bad. After my AutoPilot session yesterday (or was it
Thursday? Whichever day the thing was posted …) I called to order the
upgrade. The person who answered the phone said the latest version was 1.5
and I had to send in my disk … Turns out I was calling about 20 minutes
after the release was posted and no one there had heard about it either
8^). So I guess I'm first in line (or close to it) 8^).
Harry
Harry,
Yeah, that was kind of funny. Just after I posted the Quarterback Tools Deluxe
announcement on CompuServe, I sent out an EMail message to everyone at the
company telling them that we had finally officially announced it and that we
could talk about it. Unfortunately, the person who answered the phone when you
called hadn't read their EMail yet!

James,
Hmmm. It seems like you should have alerted your company employees
BEFORE you made a public announcement here. Also, you didn't respond to my
message where I asked you if I could purchase the new QBTools at a bigger
discount, since I just purchased Ami-Back Tools.

Good luck with the upgrade!

James,
Sounds great. I am a long-time user of QBTools1.5 and I have registered,
but experience suggests that registration details sometimes unaccountably get
lost between London and US-based companies this has happened to me before.
Grateful, therefore, if you would confirm that I am recorded in your database
as a registered user and have been sent details. If not, please let me know and
I will reply with registration number on my disk.
How does one order if living in Europe. Will the company accept an e-mail
or fax order?
Michael Buckland-Smith.
Our database shows you being registered for Quarterback, but not
Quarterback Tools, so we will need proof of ownership and your
registration number before we can upgrade you. The easiest way to do
this is to make a photocopy of the disk label (showing the
registration number), and fax that in with your order. We will also
need a VISA or MasterCard number if you do fax your order. Our fax
number is (512) 328-1925. The upgrade price will be $50.00 US
($40.00 plus $10.00 for international shipping).
Thank you, James. I'll do that.
Michael Buckland-Smith.
Sounds great, James! Can't wait to see it.
