I recently switched from 1.3 to 2.01 and am having problems with tool
types. I use excellence! word processor and need to set the tool
types to "SCALE=80 in order to get excellence to read some fonts such
as ATimes, Etimes etc. In 1.3 this enabled me to have the whole
document on one page. In 2.0 it seems to not recognize my tooltype
iinstructions. What could be the problem? No matter what tooltype I
put into the info on the excellence! icon it seems to make no
difference in the printer output (I use a HPIIIP). I have called all
numbers listed for MSS who made excellence!, scribble, online and all
phone numbers are listed as "disconnected" they are no longer even
listed by the information phone book. Any ideas on who could provide
advice. This is a business computer and so it is a real problem to

Hmm – I don't know why Excellence! would have a problem with the
tooltype that you have specified (under 2.1 or 2.0x?). Does it show up
in the Tool Types list for the .info file? Does your manual say
anything about using Tool Types for Execellence!?
Perhaps you should also post a note in the WordProcessing section of the
AmigaUser forum.

Which version of excellence! are you using? My manual says this about
Tooltypes' SCALE command:
The default value is 120 (in dots per inch). The Adobe fonts on the e!
extras disk require SCALE=72. ProPage fonts use SCALE=78 or any value up
to 82 depending on how you want them scaled. Only ONE scale command may
appear in the icon tooltypes. Tooltypes MUST appear in cap letters and no
spaces.

The excellence! scale tooltype has nothing to do with the printer output
as I understand it. It is a screen scaling factor used to get the screen
to give a WYSIWYG of the page as it will print. The values in the
tooltype are related to the font resolutin on the screen. For instance,
if you use GoldDisk PostScript fonts after converting with the MSS Convert
routine, SCALE should be between 78 and 82. For the Adobe fonts supplied
with Workbench, SCALE should be 72. For the MSS fonts scale should be
120. Then to get the page and screen to look the same, set the pitch in
the Page Setup requester to 1/8 of the SCALE value.
