If I decide to upgrade from my Amiga 500, what are the software compatibility issues? Here's my understanding so far… Is it on the mark? There are 3 reasons something old may not run: 1) They don't work with anything faster than the 8 mHz 68000 2) They require the original chipset 3) They require a version of WB prior to 2 Anything else? (I realize sometimes it may be two or all of these.) Assuming that that's the extent of the compatibility problems, then here's how I see how various upgrade options would affect my ability to run some of the older programs I have: A) The only Amigas I could upgrade to that would permit me to still run category 1 programs would be the models in the 2000 series, since even in their accelerated (030) configs, the faster processor can be bypassed, you can still run something from the stock 68000 on the motherboard. Yes? B) Category 2 programs should run on the 1200 and 4000, because the AGA machines can be set to emulate the original chips (though you'd have to reboot to switch modes). They won't run on a 3000, which is ECS only. They will run on an older 2000, but not a 2000 with ECS. Is this all correct? (Actually, isn't there a way to install both the original chips and the ECS chips in a 2000 and somehow switch between them?) C) I'm not sure how category 3 affects things… Can you run WB 1.3 on an ECS machine (3000, later 2000)? Can you run it on an AGA machine (1200, 4000)? I know that, no matter what, I can't be sure each program I have will run on any particular config (beyond the 500 I have) unless I try it. But I'm trying to make sure I understand all the issues, so I can increase the odds. Thanks, ===Scott
