Yes I think I should go AT-Vista but the Matrox has such good specifications
(on paper) that I think people should look at it and decide for themselves,
savves? <g>.
I just found out that, apparently, you can load 756x486x32-bit images with a
AT-Vista _2mb_ card using Diaquest's vload.exe (?) utility. This means if you
don't need to use any other Vista software (which needs the 4mb for undo and
things like that) then you could go with the 2mb version and save quite a lot
of money.

Probably, but I don't know of any program that will run on an AT-Vista with
only 2 megs – I've never tried 3DS like that either. Hi-Res QFX, TIPS, RIO,
Inscriber, etc, etc, etc, all require at least 4 megs.
And you can't just add the memory to the AT-Vista to get it to 4 megs
yourself later – it must go back to the factory for re-calibration.
And you'll miss out on that GREAT 1024 x 756 x 32 bit mode for editing
large maps and tweaking final hi-res images!

I don't own any of the software you mentioned, except 3ds, and probably don't
plan to with the possible exception of HiresQFX. Although according to the
Truevision Vista expert you can add the 2mb later by purchasing the VMX board
and just putting 2mb on that to give a total of 4mb for software that really
needs it.

Boy, get another expert! The ATVista uses VRAM for its display memory,
and DRAM for VMX. Applications that want a 4M ATVista (I've never sold less
than an ATVista 4M since the boards were first available) need the VRAM. The
VMX memory can be used by an application for additional image storage (or
holding 34010 program code), but will not affect the # of pixels you can
display full-screen. Of course, to complicate the issue further, Truevision
has announced the digital version of the ATVista @ NAB. Other goodies are on
the way, but not announced.

I saw the digital Vista board demo'd and it's certainly quite interesting
although still a little before it's time, at least for everyone but very
high-end production houses who use Abekas and/or D1 equipment.

Just how many buckazoids would one of those digital Vista boards put someone
back? Any other goodies worth mentioning? Thanks.

I didn't get a price on the Vista-digital because it didn't seem to apply to me
at this point, I prefer the idea of going to an Abekas system via ethernet or
exabyte tape.
