#Rendering Noise-Shadows?
3 messages in this thread
A customer has called with a question that I need some help with. While
rendering to video, some frames show noise, which the customer describes as
looking like a worn out video tape.
There are 2 3DS files involved, an exterior (one light, shadow map = 512) which
renders correctly every time, and an interior (41 lights, 5 of which cast
shadows, shadow map =1600) which renders with intermittent "noise". The noise
may or may not show up on any given frame.
A restriped new tape gives the same results. Any clues?
Thanks for your help.

The first thing I'd have him do would be to render to disk and tape at the
same time and compare the files with 'noise' to see where his problem really
is.

Thanks Greg. I suspect that we'll see clean disk renderings. Yann was
wondering if the large number of lights might be creating illegal colors, and
Jamie asked if the rendering was being done with a Weitek chip, since he'd
experienced some noise from a defective Weitek.
I'll let the customer know your thoughts.
P.S. (I guess this is how conversations veer from their stated Subjects!) Saw
the newsletter! Excellent! I ran into Angelo at FOSE in Washington D.C. and
got a copy. I'm looking forward to the next editions too. Surprised I didn't
see an ad for your IPAS utilities though.
