To anyone who can point me in the right direction …
I have a problem getting hold a printer here in the UK who can print from
the AMIGA using Pro Page 3. The program is absolutely terrific to use but
useless when it cannot be printed from properly. My format is A3 folded
for 4 x A4 pages to a total of 16-20 A4 sized pages.
A company called DTP BUREAU (Nottingham) has regularly printed my magazine
but with every issue they make a hash of it with text missing, photos
badly reproduced and grey scales altered. I'm really getting pissed off
with them. They advertise in various AMIGA mags claiming to be able to
print files from an AMIGA but they cannot print traced files from pro-page
or pro-0draw nor can they print any of the GEORGE THOMSON Compugraphic
font collections – not without making a mess of it. But recently I was
advised not to use a video digitiser after being advised to buy the
ColourPic Plus by them some months ago. They also said I would be better
to use bitmap fonts in future rather than the compugraphic ones as they
would be sure to print them out properly then!!!
I need a company that can print the magazine which I give them without
alteration or screw-up and would appreciate advice from anyone who can
help me in locating such a printing company.

The others here will need to know what files you are providing to to DTB
people, including the CG fonts, in order to find out what is going wrong.
The missing text to me sounds like it was a different font (from rest of
doc) and they dont have it (that CG font) on their machine. Also are they
using PPage on an Amiga to do the printing? What printer are they using?
OTOH you may get a better result by saving the mag out as a Postscript
file onto a PC disk (using CrossDos prog to enable PC disk in Amiga) and
getting another DTP beaureaux to print out master copies and then get them
photocipied on a high quality photocopier at the beaureaux.This may be a
bit more involved but you should be able to get very high quality
results.
There's an English bloke on here that is very knowledgable about DTP, he
told me about the Postscript method above, which works very well.
