There are only a few instances where a exact play time might be useful if it was stored with the track info, for example skippping the start of track 8 on Michael Jackson's Dangerous CD. Index scan could be more useful, I have at least one cd with indexes and almost never noticed, because I'm usuall not at the computer when a CD is playing. Since index is not in the TOC, it has to be found by scanning, look athe the las few seconds of a track, see if the index is above 1, and split the time in the track, read the Q code and index, etc., shen you get to the time release mute. Index is good on long peices, with movements. I wish I had more discs that used then, the althernative is to set up a custom seek and play list. Incidentally, the Microsoft Win 3.1 player (at least after video for windows upgrade) supports a defalut setting in the setup, or more than one drive. Select MCI CD audio, and setup. I got a box for four drives for MCI play functions. Found that when it was set for drive 4, and with a nice lng audio cd in drive four, that when I ran Creation Stories on drive 1, it played the audio on drive 4. (g) So at least one MPC cd uses MCI calls. I have audio soft for Hitachi drives that can play audio on any of 8 drives and andy of 32 on one card. These drive numbers are used in business aps, home use is likely to be a max of two.
