I'm pretty sure I recently read that the audioports don't work with CD-ROM
drives. I hope someone else can comment on whether I'm right about this. The
article I read was in Windows Sources – it was an interesting commentary on the
use of sound cards for business memos and other voice recording.
Am I right that you have (or plan to get) a CD-ROM drive? If so, check
carefully before you get a soundport.

I think what you read is that there is no joint control on such a port. That
is thge board that controls sound does not control the drive. That is also the
case for most boards. But if the drive produces sound files for the computer
the port will recognize them, and boards also will. I have read the articles.
