Jack: Nice to hear from you again… Thanks for the report… I am curious
about the program Vidtest you ran; where did you get it and what does it do? I
am somewhat of a utility and benchmark fiend and am always looking for new and
interesting ones – even if they show me something I don't want to know about,
such as my PAS16 is slow. Brian
Vidtest is an absolutely wonderful program and I wish MicroSoft would make
it available all over, particularly on Video for Windows and such disks. Alas,
it currently exists in only two incarnations: a strictly beta multimedia
Windows version that was created for a beta test and never released as an end
product when the test was over, and on a MicroSoft multimedia disk that's
basically distributed only to OEMs to be given away as samplers. As I was a
part of the original beta test and therefore got a copy of the release version
when it appeared, I have it here in both incarnations, but I don't think there
is anywhere I could point you so you could buy it. It has to be installed and
for test validation has to be on a CD, so making it available as a download
(it's huge anyway) wouldn't work. I can only hope that MicroSoft takes my
advice and sticks it on all future Video for Windows disks.
Jack Thanks for the info on Vidtest. Even when MS does put out something
useful they often don't mention or document it. MSD.EXE was a find that I see
little word about in their manuals. Granted its limited, but I needed it on
one computer where the floppy stopped responding. Brian
