The terminators at each end of a SCSI bus (which are just resistor packs; the
fancier ones have a regulator and maybe diodes) must be powered from 5 volts.
Any device on the bus can provide the power; all initiators (ie. host adapters
like your Ultrastor) *must* provide termpwr, and targets (eg. disk drives) can
also provide it. A well-designed SCSI device puts a diode between its 5v source
and the bus to protect one device with a higher 5v supply from trying to pull
up another. There are usually jumpers on a device to allow one to disconnect
the device's 5v from the termpwr pin on the bus. If the device has sockets for
resistor pack style terminators, there is typically a jumper to either power
the resistor packs from the bus or from the device's own 5v supply.
I don't know why the termpwr pin would have an effect on whether the device was
visible to the host adapter. I usually jumper everything to provide termpwr, so
that if one device goes down, the bus keeps working.
Does the Seagate work when the Connor is plugged in? You may have an address
conflict. Every device on the bus (including the host adapter) must have a
unique address.
