#More Commodore Layoffs

GEnie has a bulletin announcing more layoffs yesterday at Commodore US in West
Chester. They have been told it's 10 to 12 people, in Engineering, CATS,
Product Assurance, and includes Rick Sterling (who I remember was involved in
testing the original Translator MS-DOS emulator). Does anyone have any more
details, and how it might be effecting good old Commodore…?? –apl
All outside sales reps have been let go–including some old timers that
have been around for a very long time. The staff at Reston now is at one
I believe, there may be a secretary as well.
I don't view the loss of the outside sales people as a big loss. They did
nothing anyway, as they were denied travel most of the time anyway.

True, regarding the outside sales people (sorry guys…). It's the inside
development and support people that's ominous. I doubt CBM has had any fat for
quite a while, and now they may be cutting out muscle and internal organs…

There were shy of a dozen from Engineering hit in West Chester. In
Engineering, other than one in hardware and one in software, all were
support and test people rather than development engineers. (No, that
doesn't make them expendible, but…) There were about 30 overall, mostly
from closing regional sales offices.
The layoffs are always scary, but this seems like one of the routine
"we're a little short on cash right now" things. If there are more
layoffs in the next few months that hit engineering, *then* is time to
start worrying.
